MOLLY WEINBURGH , Ph.D. PERSONAL BIO
Welcome to Contemporary Issues in Biology. We are very glad that you are visiting this site and how you get ideas that will help you as a teacher. It was truly an honor to work with Dr. Ray Drenner and the wonderful group of biologists, teachers, and students who made this project possible.
Let me tell you a little about myself. In 1974 I graduated from Agnes Scott College with a degree in biology and a Georgia Teaching Certificate (T–5). I was hired to teach general biology (10th grade) at the school in which I student taught. Overnight my cooperating teacher and mentor becoming my department chair (and mentor)! From 1974 to 1991 (17 years!) I taught a variety of science courses including General Biology, AP Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Embryology, Microbiology, Health, and 7th grade Individualized Science Curriculum Studies (ISCS).
As many of you have done, I continued my education at night after teaching a full day and coaching in the afternoon. I earned my masters in 1980 and my doctorate in 1993. I never expected to move to the University level but in 1991 Georgia State University’s Department of Middle/Secondary Education asked me to take a one-semester appointment teaching science methods. As they say, the rest is history. I stayed on the faculty of Georgia State University until 2002 when I accepted a position at Texas Christian University. I have had the opportunity to work with a variety of scientists, science educators, and science teachers in more than 11 countries including Botswana, Ghana, Sweden, The Netherlands, and Chile.
At TCU, I have the pleasure of teaching science methods courses in the School of Education. I also teach one section of the biology for non-majors in the Department of Biology. In biology, I work with a team lead by Dr. Ray Drenner and including Mr. Mark Bloom and Dr. Gail Jones. In addition, I work with in-service teachers through the work of the Institute of Mathematics, Science, & Technology Education. For more information, you may go to:
